MORTGAGE BANKING

Since 1985, Danish mortgage banks have had access to offering loans with a mortgage in real estate in Greenland. The mortgage companies represented in Greenland are Realkredit Danmark, Nykredit, DLR Realkredit, and BRF Kredit.

Outstanding mortgage debt is shown in Figure 1. The majority of loans, about 70 per cent, finance housing in Nuuk because more and more people choose to buy their own homes rather than rent them or because they convert cooperative housing to home ownership.
